XVII в.

New issue of "Old Zeughause" magazine (# 55, 5/2013) with my article about Russian troops in the battle of Jakobstadt

The new # 55 issue of “Old Zeughause” magazine contains my article about Russian Corps under GM B. Korsak (see some add info) & the battle of Jakobstadt on 5 August of 1704 (see some here). My focus is on the Russian troops, not the battle itself. I found the exact data about Russian strength, losses, cannons & ammunition. Some of the materials I’ve already put in the blog. Other will placed here soon.
As far as I know, Radek Sikora is also working on an article about the battle of Jakobstadt. He found some new materials, incl. the description of the battle in the memories of a Pole from Wisniowecki’s troops. I provided him all my materials about Russians, participated in the battle, so let’s wait when the Radek’s article will be published.

Austrian army in 1759: composition & regimental lineages

I found by occasion a very good source about Austrian army in 7YW:

It was published by J. Seyfart in Leipzig in 1760.

Taking of Swedish fortresses Yam & Koporie, May 1703

Jama in 1680
The central part of the Swedish province Ingermanland was covered by 2 small strongholds, Yam (or Jama) & Koporie. Both were built in the Middle Ages & had limited garrisons & artillery. Yama in 1703 was held by a small detachment of 80 Swedes under a captain with 4 cannons. Garrison of Koporie was of a battalion of infantry under lieutenant-colonel Apoloff (brother of Nien’s commandant), artillery is unknown.
Yam was besieged on 8 of May (all dates are modern) by Russian Corps under GM Nikolas von Werden. It consisted of one dragoon (Grigorov) & 12 foot (Shweiden, Aygustov, Mews, von Deldin, Friedrich Balk, Nicolas Balk, Angler, Inflant, Herring, Scot, Rydder, Kelling, Sharf – totaled 9 820 men) regiments with 5 mortars, 9 howitzers & 23 3-pdr regimental pieces. Russians completed batteries on 13 of May & the same day started the bombardment. Next day Swedish garrison capitulated on the terms of the free passage to Narva.
Koporie in 1645
Russian siege forces at Koporie were under command of Field-Marshal Boris Sheremetev. His troops consisted of 8 infantry regiments (Karr, Tolbugin, Gundertmark, Deduit, Strekalov, Angler, Herring, Inflant – the last 3 came from Yam), 250 mounted noble levy from Novgorod & 1 700 Kalmyks & Tartars with 5 mortars, 2 howitzers & 5 regimental pieces.
On 23 of May Russians opened siege works at Koporie. On 25 of May Sheremetev suggested Apoloff to surrender, but he refused. The same day Russians started bombardment. On 27 of May Swedes agreed to capitulate on the terms of free passage to Narva.
After the fall of Yam & Koporie the whole Ingermalnad except Ivangorod & Narva was in Russian hands.
